The EV Revolution is Coming to Nepal — Is Our Workforce Ready?
June 12, 2026
Nepal is one of the fastest-adopting EV markets in South Asia. But as the number of electric vehicles on Kathmandu's roads doubles every year, a critical question emerges: do we have enough trained technicians to keep them running?
Nepal is one of the fastest-adopting EV markets in South Asia. With a government policy push toward electrification and rising fossil fuel costs, more Nepalis are choosing electric every year.
But a critical question emerges: **do we have enough trained technicians to keep them running?**
**The Skills Gap is Real**
Electric vehicles require completely different skills than ICE vehicles. A malfunctioning EV needs:
- Knowledge of high-voltage safety (up to 800V systems)
- Battery Management System (BMS) diagnostics and cell-level analysis
- Power electronics — inverters, DC-DC converters, on-board chargers
- CAN bus communication protocol analysis
- Software-level diagnostics and OTA update management
These skills simply do not exist in sufficient numbers in Nepal's current workforce.
**What NepTech is Doing About It**
NepTech's EV Training and Research Centre offers Nepal's most comprehensive EV technical training curriculum — built from real-world diagnostic requirements, not theory. Our flagship 3-day BMS Diagnostics Workshop sold out its inaugural cohort before the program formally launched.
**The Road Ahead**
NepTech's goal is to train 500+ EV professionals over the next three years. Nepal's electric mobility future depends on it.
